José B. Carrión III

Board Member

José B. Carrión III is an entrepreneur and experienced insurance executive. From 1995 to 2001, he was affiliated with AON Risk Services of Puerto Rico and was the firm’s President from 2000 to 2001. He co-founded the independent insurance brokerage Carrión, Laffitte & Casellas Inc. in 2001 and was its President until 2012, when it was sold to HUB International. He was President and Principal Partner of HUB International CLC, LLC from 2012 to 2018 and Chairman from 2018 to 2020.

From 2009 to 2012, he served as the Chairman of the Board for the Corporación del Fondo del Seguro del Estado (State Insurance Fund Corporation) and was a Board Member of the Administración de Compensación de Accidentes (Automobile Accident Compensation Administration), Puerto Rico’s sole auto “no fault” liability insurer.

He was the first Chairman of the Financial & Oversight Management Board (FOMB) under the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act enacted by the U.S. Congress. He was nominated to the FOMB by Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Paul Ryan and appointed by President Barack Obama in 2016.

José received an M.B.A. from the College of Insurance, now St. John’s University and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. He is also an active member of the Puerto Rico chapter of Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO).
